To be registered as Community Interest Company, we had to start off by saying how what we did would be of benefit to the community – this is what we came up with:
“The company’s activities will provide benefit to the people who live, work and/or run a business in Buxton, and to visitors to Buxton. In particular the company’s objective is to advance the prosperity of Buxton and the well-being of its community.”
There’s more detail of how we intend to achieve this here.
A central concept though, from the very beginning, has been of Buxton as ‘One Town’ – the idea that if we can pull together the different elements of Buxton, both geographically and culturally, then we can be so much stronger:-
One part of this is what we call Main Street – this runs all the way from the viaduct end of Spring Gardens, up the Slopes, over the Market Place and down the High Street to the London Road traffic lights.
The other part is to incorporate the elements of
- Arts & Culture
- Health & Well-being
- Outdoor Pursuits & Adventure
to become a more integral part of the town and more relevant to its residents.
