Stage 6 of the Tour of Britain came right through Buxton on Friday 11th September. In on the Leek Rd, then Macclesfield Rd, West Rd, High Street, Market Place (sprint finish), Terrace Rd, The Crescent, The Square, Water St and out over Long Hill.
To make the most of this we collected nearly 30 scrap bikes, painted them up and decorated the route. Then on the day we added milk bottle flowers, balloons and twirly ribbons, so the bikes looked their best for the big event.
We encouraged businesses on the route to decorate their premises as well, and were delighted that so many did so. And Buxton people turned out in their thousands to line the route and cheer the cyclists on their way. And the sun shone! All in all a great day for the town.
Thanks to everyone who donated bikes, space to paint, paint, brushes, ribbon, balloons etc and who helped out in any way.
More about the project in the Project Proposal. A Closing Report will be along in due course.
